What will AB-2260 cost?
The cost of a single AB-2260 trauma kit is expected to be between $25-35, if no optional advanced hemostatic agent dressings are included, about $50 if they are.
AB-2260 would require 6 kits per building, which would be about $132-$210. Compared to the cost of an automatic external defibrillator (AED) which costs $900 to $2000, six AB-2260 kits comprise less than 15% of the cost of an AED, while greatly increasing its utility.
AEDs have a lifespan of about 10 years. AB-2260 trauma kits have an indefinite expiry date if no advanced hemostatic agent dressings are included, 2-5 years if they are. AB-2260 does not mandate the inclusion of advanced hemostatic agent dressings.
How are the kits installed? Do I need a wall mounted box?
AB-2260 kits are to be placed in buildings already required to have AEDs. In most cases, the AB-2260 can be placed inside the existing AED box. Stickers or signage indicating that the station has bleeding control kits are placed on the box and.or wall. An example from San Diego International Airport is shown.
Do AB-2260 kits interfere with the AED? How do the AED people feel about this?
AB-2260 kits do not interfere with AED use. AEDs have grown smaller over time, so most AED boxes have adequate space to add AB-2260 kits. AED manufacturers encourage the addition of Bleeding Control kits too their AEDs and often sell kits for inclusion in the AED station. The addition of Bleeding Control kits makes AED installations able to help save both cardiac patients and severe bleeding patients.
What about the cost of training?
“Stop the Bleed” training is usually free and available live and on-line. Courses that charge fees may be providing a personal bleeding control kit at live training. It is important for building owners to ensure that tenants and employees know where their AEDs and Bleeding Control Kits are located – one survey indicated 51% of employees were unsure where their workplace AED was located.
